Favorite code editor and why?

mconway and I were talking and it made me want to ask: What's your favorite code editor and why?

I really like Dreamweaver for its clean look and helpful commands, but I can't afford it at home. For a while I was using Crimson Editor and then PSPad, and recent started using Eclipse, but it lacks some of the simple features Dreamweaver does.

So, what's your favorite code editor and why?

Dreamweaver is nice, but it still adds arbitrary code specific to DW.

Im partial to Notepad++.

It is expanndable via plugins, and comes standard with a script editor, and has about 40 languages it can highight. It also includes a functions list.

The best part about it is that it is free, and it fits on my flash drive, so Im never without it

For quick editing I use EMeditor: http://www.emeditor.com/

Very light and option-packed!

I cannot do webpages without Dreamweaver as their version of "intelli-sense" is something I have gotten to used to. However, for things like javascript, I find Dreamweaver a bit lacking. I find Aptana better for that since they have syntax highlighting and auto-complete for javascript.

You can even import the jQuery library and since it's built off Eclipse, it'll let you see all the jQuery methods.

Well, I love Notepad++ because it perfectly corresponds to my needs.
You can easily custom it, modify the hilight properties, and because it is very easy to use.

Before trying N++, I used to code with UltraEdit, but I was always lost in its thousands of options -.-'

I personally really like Komodo. Just enough of an IDE not to get in my way, and I love the code suggestions - though they are a bit lacking for JavaScript and ActionScript.

my new favorite editor is Eclipse. You can add in phpeclipse, jseclipse and many other additions to it and make it become an awesome IDE, it even allows for SVN commands form the IDE itself.

Favourite editor : Vim

Why, any of the following :

I'm a masochist
I never got around to learning Emacs
I can leave it running on my server in a Screen session
Easy to use*
Very fast
Its a touch typists dream (rarely need to move your fingers far from the home keys)
Never far from a BASH shell
I'm a masochist

*Once you have invested a bit of time learning to use it

When I'm in Linux I do enjoy Vim, but on Windows I recently started using Aptana and I'm liking it so far (it's basically Eclipse modified for Web developers -- it even has built in jQuery support!).
